All The Little Things: Trinkets, Part One

There are items in this game that are not noticable at first glance, but can none the less be a good addition for a character or a character's story. What I am talking about are items such as rings, tomes, trinkets and more. Usually when I put an outfit together I like to replace my rings, necklaces, trinkets and off-hands to fit my characters. To me it can be just as important as what you see without inspecting.

In this first part of what I intend to be a series of posts on such little things, I will look at trinkets that may be of use to those interested in more than stats. What I did was skim through the entire list of ingame trinkets as I picked out those I found interesting. Not surprisingly, the list came out to be very long indeed. So I decided to split this one post into several posts, which will be coming out in the next few days.

But before I start I would like to comment on something more than a few have asked me: Why just trinkets? I will for instance be writing about the Orb of Deception but not the Orb of Sin'Dorei. The reasons are as follows: First of all, I am a very tidy and stubborn person when it comes to categories. I decided on trinkets, therefore, trinkets it is. Secondly, there really is no room for more right now. The rest will have to wait for some later time. Thirdly, I am trying to make a distinction between items that you can actually see when you inspect someone and those you cannot. Yes it's nitpicking of the severest sort, but that's where it is at the moment. I give you my word, I will write about the rest later. Now, back to business...

I have tried to group things up somewhat - The main idea being, what situations you can use these items in, say in an RP setting. For instance, take a look at the mount related trinkets:

If you have a fondness for mounts or already have a Mountain o’ Mounts, don't forget the classics: Carrot on a Stick, Riding Crop and Skybreaker Whip. A skilled rider should have some accessories to match his/her abilities and achievements, don't you think? To me it does not matter that the speed enhancements are not valid above level 70. My personal favourite has been Carrot on a Stick, and I always found it a shame that it wasn't visible when equipped. Still, with some imagination, I am sure you can get a bit of fun out of it. And if not, here is something to get you going. ;)


Though the following two trinkets won't give you any riding/flying advantage, they are none the less some of the coolest flight related trinkets you can find: Skyguard Silver Cross and Airman's Ribbon of Gallantry. They both require an exalted status with the Sha'tari Skyguard, but I cannot think of a better way to show you are more than worthy of the mounts you fly around on. For some reason I find these are best suited with an owner of a flying machine, but that may again just be me...

Allrighty! Skipping to the second category of the day: Party trinkets! *cracks knuckles*
Drinkers and drunkards rejoyce, for these are the trinkets that will get you tipsy to wasted and make your parties more enjoyable.
If you like to share your drinks with your mates get your hands on Balebrew Charm and Brightbrew Charm during the Brewfest holiday. As many people out there spend a bit of their Brewfest time trying desperately to get their hands on a Kodo or Ram mount, you will most definitely see these dwarven ladies drop a few times. While you are there, keep your eye out for Empty Mug of Direbrew as well.



Other alternatives for those who don't mind drinking on their own, or who don't really like sharing are Braxley's Backyard Moonshine and Thunderbrew's Boot Flask. Nice names too. Enjoy!
For its name and inscription alone I also strongly recommend the Diamond Flask for those who can get it. As far as I know, this is a a warrior quest reward. Lucky warriors...




Dwarves sitting in dark inn corners with their pipes and pints need never despair so long as they have Smokey's Lighter. By the way, the pipe is also a brewfest acquired trinket, so plenty to do that week. ;)






And if you are looking for some lighting effects consider the High Powered Flashlight. It summons a ring of light that looks exactly like the one made by Elder's Moonstone, which makes stacking up on those unneccessary. Engineers, I love you!

Should by some odd chance the guy in the corner refuse to take a turn on the dancefloor with you despite all this, you can always MAKE him dance with a Piccolo of the Flaming Fire from Stratholme. *grin* I have been trying to get this one for some time now, but I seem to be a very unlucky mage - it simply will not drop for me.



Speaking of parties, if servants or extra guests are needed and your character is a lord/lady then the Barov Peasant Caller may come in handy. For other types of characters, other things might suit better. But that I will leave for the next post. ;)

That Lovely Dress

It is pretty safe to assume that at this point almost everyone out there has a lovely dress. My first lovely robe was blue and I wore it all the time. Not knowing anything about roleplay or rp clothes back then I wore it with everything and anything. Imagine a huntress in a lovely blue dress, yet fully battle geared and with a diseased grizzly bear in tow. I am pretty sure I was the weirdest dressed night elf hunter on The Venture Co. (Embarrassing screenshots may appear in time)

Whether it is purple, blue, red or black, the lovely dress is in many ways the WoW equivalent of the little black dress. You put it on and you are pretty much good to go. The only problem in WoW is that when you arrive at the party there are five other people dressed just like you. So, here are my suggestions for how you can make your robe stand out among all others worn during Valentine's or that special occasion.



Lovely Blue Dress
I have tried to keep the outfit as simple as possible so the robe itself doesn't disappear under a cloak or is outshined by bulky gloves. The only things I have added are:
Arcane Pads - some of the nicest blue shoulders I have come across. Check your auction house for these.
Bindings of Yearning
Cincture of Polarity







Both the bracers and the belt are to me proof that one should always check what one loots. I have been very disappointed with the looks of items in the 'new' expansion. However there are gems out there. These two pieces have become essential to a lot of what I wear these days and you will see more of them on this blog. So there you go. Always Ctrl+left click. ;)

Back to the purple dress... Also here, I have felt it would be best with a minimalist approach. Still this is probably the most grand look you can achieve without being over the top:

The Scintillating Headdress of Second Sight works with the blue dress as well.
Both the shoulders and the head piece are level 70 items. Honestly, for something as lovely as this I think it is just as well you had to work a little to attain it. *hides*









For something simpler you can try the Lavender Mageweave Shirt. This is a set I am still working on, but I thought I should add it for inspiration. What you are looking at are Arcanist Belt and Arcanist Gloves.







Another unique look, this time for the Lovely Black Dress is to match it up with an Ebon Filigreed Doublet, Crimson Bracers of Gloom and Cincture of Polarity. I just love how this turned out. The shirt has a flame like detail on the back that brings a lot of personality to the outfit. I wonder how this would work with the red model of the dress...



Getting back to my comparison between the lovely dress and the little black dress. The lovely black dress is indeed a very versatile item. Not only is it not soulbound, it also works well with a lot of different items. Some months ago, a dear friend of mine showed me a great way to remake it. He paired it up with a tuxedo shirt! To fill out the lower gaps left by the dress you can use black pants - Tuxedo Pants for example.


And though that simple yet elegant combination is enough on its own, I added some items. Hey, I couldn't help myself. :P The result was a perfect outfit for a scribe, clerk, librarian or any kind of bureaucrat. As mentioned above, you start with the black dress, tuxedo pants and shirt. Add Duskwoven Bracers for that 'can't get my sleeves dirty'-office look and Noble's Monocle - all that reading does take its toll.
Of course I added my favourite belt of all time *hides* It looks good though... To top it off, find a sutable book off-hand for your character to carry.






If you are looking for some other interesting head items, I would recommend Don Carlos' Famous Hat. Goggles would work very well too. Though I don't have the red dress I suggest trying the Crimson Felt Hat. Tell me how it turns out, will you?
